Abstract

ALANIS ENCISO, Fernando Saúl. The return migration of Mexicans from the United States. (1920-1929). Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2025, vol.46, n.181, pp.262-283.  Epub Feb 18, 2025. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v46i181.1089.

This article analyzes the main types of return migration of Mexicans from the United States in the 1920s: temporary migrants, deportation, unemployment due to the economic recession, and fear of expulsion. Likewise, the purpose is to examine its dimensions. The main proposal of this work is that the returns have been relevant in quantitative terms in the history of Mexican migration to the United States, not only in times of economic recession but also in stages of economic boom and high migration, such as in the 1920s.

Keywords : Migration; Return; Mexicans; Mexico; United States.
