This essay analyzes the different versions of the supposed pastry claim that historiography takes up to call the first French intervention “the pastry war.” Some historians point out that this claim was, among other things, one of the causes of the first French intervention. However, I maintain that such a claim was an invention of the Mexican press to question and criticize the French blockade. Likewise, the popular sectors adopted this satire to denigrate the French who occupied a privileged position in Mexican commerce.
