GARCIA CORONA, Nely Noemí. Ecclesiastical Issues in the Michoacán Constituent Assembly of 1824-1825. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.164, pp.195-218.  Epub 11-Oct-2021. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v41i164.706.

This article presents an analysis of the ecclesiastical issues that were the object of discussion during the first Michoacán Constituent Assembly in 1824-1825. Specifically, the study focuses on the debates and resolutions that arose in relation to the honors owed to civilian authorities, tithes, the presence of the clergy in the state Congress, and other ecclesiastical matters involved in the constitutional debate of the period. Those discussions took place at a time when no solid legal framework yet existed because Mexico’s independence had not been recognized by either Spain or the Holy See. Moreover, the Patronato had been suspended until a new concordat could be reached. The approach adopted reveals how conflicts between the civil and religious powers emerged only a few days after the Constituent Assembly had commenced its sessions.
