Resumen
FOLQUER, Cynthia. Care, Exhortation and Opening the Heart: the Epistolary of Elmina Paz de Gallo, Tucumán, Argentina (Second Half of the 19th century). Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.150, pp.127-158. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v38i150.296.
The epistolary of Elmina Paz de Gallo analyzed in this article opens a window into the world of 19th-century convents, including such topics as relations among nuns, their everyday life in those asylum-convents, the construction of religious identities, and intimacy and emotions in those cloisters; in short, an examination of “writing from the soul”. The essay focuses on the life of Elmina Paz, the context of education in 19th-century Tucumán, practices related to reading and writing in the convent, and a selection of letters grouped around three axes: caring for life, intimacy, and exhortation.
