EISSA-BARROSO, Francisco A.. From the Corregimiento to Politico-Military Governorship: the Government of Veracruz and the "Militarization" of Government Offices in Spain and the Indies during the Reigns of Felipe V. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.147, pp.13-49. ISSN 2448-7554.
This essay analyzes the transformation of the profile of the individuals who exercised government in Veracruz from the late 17th to the mid-18th centuries, showing that this coincided with the appointment of experienced soldiers to government posts in strategic provinces in both Spain and America. It further demonstrates that the transformation of the profile of governors was accompanied by formal modifications of the administrative and institutional status associated with such positions, as occurred also in other areas of Spanish America.
