Abstract
VADILLO, Juan. Paradise, Landscape, and Distance in Kafka’s America. Acta poét [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.1, pp.159-173. Epub June 15, 2020. ISSN 2448-735X. https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2020.1.870.
In this article we discuss Franz Kafka’s novel America from three main topics: paradise, landscape, and distance. We intend to point out how paradise and the earthly world are present throughout its plot in a parallel form. The landscape descriptions offer a view to paradise, but we inevitably go back to the earthly world. It is a contrastive dialogue between paradise and tragedy, where women represent a door to paradise and a banishment from paradise at the same time.
