Servius’s Commentarii supported cultural and linguistic values of the pagan world, which existed through the process of triumphant Christianity’s legalization. The paradigmatic authors Servius used were located in the rhetoric system as unconscious and conscious “strata”, as a result of the intellectual background provided by the leading groups through Roman history. This paper demonstrates the stratified construction of Servius’s Commentarii, with the purpose of rendering an evidence of this dialogic operation, which was charac-teristic of late antiquity.
