VALLE, Macarena Verónica del et al. Sociodemographic characteristics associated with the academic performance of Argentine university students. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2024, vol.53, n.211, pp.99-118. Epub 24-Jun-2025. ISSN 0185-2760. https://doi.org/10.36857/resu.2024.211.2959.
Academic performance in universities is a complex and multidetermined variable that has attracted increasing interest in the literature given the current rates of academic dropout and delay. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships between the sociodemographic factors of gender, age, employment status, socioeconomic level and school of origin with the academic performance of Argentine university students. We worked with 196 students from the National University of Mar del Plata. The results suggest that the sociodemographic factors of age, socioeconomic level, school of origin and number of hours worked are associated with academic performance. This study constitutes a starting point for future research to develop and implement interventions aimed at optimizing the quality of teaching and learning processes.
