In order to understand of the phenomenon of the evaluation and accreditation of bachelor’s programs in Mexico, the text analyzes the current state of evaluation and accreditation in the State Public Universities (UPES). To fulfill this objective, the text analyses the relationship between the evaluation and accreditation processes with the current trend of the concept of quality in higher education, as well as with the identification of the level of accredited and evaluated programs of the 34 UPES. It concludes the consolidation of the search for legitimacy and competitiveness of public higher education in Mexico.
