This study tries to showcase how school leaders have experienced the effect of COVID-19 in their rural educational centers in Spain. All schools had to overhaul their operations and organization to better handle the school year of 2020-2021. We designed an online questionnaire, and it was answered by 252 members of the management teams currently working in rural schools. Our results showcased how the whole school community made a great effort to successfully overcome this school year and adapt to the changes happening around work, relationships, and communication. Some aspects typical of rural schools, such as low ratio, made these changes easier. While others, such as precarious connectivity, increased difficulties surrounding school activities in rural areas.
