In today’s network-based society, where work has become the central axis around which the rest of social times revolve, leisure--as a time with value in itself--tends to occupy a secondary space in the structure of citizens’ daily agendas. Through grounded theoretic reflection, this paper analyzes the historic evolution of leisure and its conceptualization in the time-space context of contemporary society. It also examines the role that social pedagogy, and more concretely leisure education, should play in ensuring the right to a human and dignified leisure for all, in order to achieve a fuller exercise of citizenship.
