Abstract

CORBELLA, Virginia Inés  and  ELIAS, Silvina. University student mobility: Factors for choosing Argentina as a study destination. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.160, pp.120-140. ISSN 0185-2698.

The internationalization of higher education (IHE) has long been the subject of studies at highereducation universities and institutes. In recent years, the flow of international students to Argentina has increased considerably; therefore, this paper seeks to examine the factors contributing to students’ decision to attend the Universidad Nacional del Sur in order to enroll on regular, additional or end-of course degree programs. A total of 48 semi-structured interviews were made with international degree students (67 per cent of the total population). Furthermore, eight students were interviewed to develop a fuller understanding of the information provided in the questionnaire. The results identified some factors associated with the arrival of international students that have been considered by previous writers and others that have not been discussed. The following factors stand out: language, socio-cultural affinity, public and free education, and ease of entry.
