Abstract
HERNANDEZ MENDEZ, Griselda and REYES CRUZ, María del Rosario. The students as opponents in the power relations within the classroom. Teachers' testimonies. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.133, pp.162-173. ISSN 0185-2698.
The authors intend to demystify the fallacy produced by some theoretical perspectives that the teacher is the only one who exerts power within the classroom. Therefore they retrieve postulates from Foucault's microphysical postulate such as the conception of power itself, the vision of the classroom as a microworld, the function of diverse devices or strategies to exert power and the sense of the baconian equation between power and knowledge; furthermore, they gather testimonies from teachers and students from a postgraduate course, testimonies whose value results evident along the whole article. The voices and feelings of teachers that are externalized by this study allow to observe how they experience the power relations within the classroom, which strategies are used by the students to harm the teacher's authority and how it is possible that sometimes those students are able to exert a greater power than the teacher.
