The present study is based on the analysis of two relevant trends: the first one is represented by the pedagogy used in the teacher training colleges (escuelas normales), the second is the university pedagogy. The training of education professionals is related, on one hand, to the professionalization processes of the Mexican teachers, which began since the development of teacher training and professional improvement programs created by the federal government and its educational branches, and, on the other, to the training projects for university education offered first by public universities and later by the private ones. The article analyzes both trends and their implication in the proposals of professional training in this knowledge area.
