An interview with Ernesto de la Torre Villar (1917-2009), a Mexican historian and bibliographer who worked with Juan Bautista Iguíniz Vizcaíno (1881-1972), also a renowned librarian, bibliographer, and historian who worked at the National Library of Mexico has been recovered. Both figures contributed to the development of the country’s history and bibliography through their academic work at the Institute of Bibliographic Research and the Institute of Historical Research at the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM). The interview provides biographical information and reveals the personal qualities that distinguished Iguíniz, as well as his relationship with important figures of his time. It also offers a close look at his professional growth, characterized by his promotion of formal studies in Library Science and his innovative role in the modernization of the cataloging and bibliographic classification processes implemented in Mexican libraries during the 20th century.
