Abstract

This research analyzes the cultural principles and values that guide good living for the Tseltal of Oxchuc, Chiapas, Mexico, with analysis of local categories. Through Grounded Theory, Constant Comparative Method and Action Research, em­pirical data was obtained and categorized in the native Tseltal language. Data was then linked to the theoretical concepts of cultural principles and values, good living and social change. The study’s purpose is to investigate the principles and cultural values that guide good living in the family, community, territorial and municipal dimensions. It is concluded that these principles and values not only support good living in the community, but also guide the sociopolitical organization, conflict resolution, functioning of local government, leadership bases and social change of the Tseltal people of Chiapas.
