Abstract

ROJAS HERRERA, Juan José. Progressive Left-Wing Governments and the Institutionalization of the Social and Solidarity Economy in Latin America. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2024, vol.69, n.250, pp.19-42.  Epub Apr 07, 2025. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2024.250.79961.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the different processes of institutionalization of the social and solidarity economy in the context of democratic transition experiences promoted by various leftwing parties in Latin America. Although the results were dissimilar in each country, in general terms they are discouraging due to the lack of affinity between the conception and objectives of the ruling elite and the real needs of fostering and promoting social and solidarity economy enterprises. The interests, objectives and expectations of the different governments were confined to their priorities of political legitimation and reproduction, while the aspirations of the social and solidarity economy actors did not find a place in the instrumental and vertical style with which public policies in this matter were applied in this area.

Keywords : solidarity economy; institutionalization; left; right; State.
