Abstract
BOURSCHEID, Junior Ivan. The Colorada Ideology: The Role of the Intellectuals in the Continuing Leadership of the Paraguayan Hegemonic Bloc. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2018, vol.63, n.232, pp.181-218. ISSN 0185-1918. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2018.232.57795.
This paper explores the role of ideology in the Paraguayan process of political control, in view of its legitimacy. We use a Gramscian theoretical-conceptual base, given the relevance of ideology and intellectuals to maintain the hegemonic bloc. We identify the ideological discourses of the Colorado Party to find the key idea and the elements that prompt the party’s action in five selected periods. Two sources of research data are used: party agreements and their ideological declarations, as well as works of Colorado organic intellectuals, which we study with the technique of discourse analysis. We will observe that adaptability and tradition are central elements, where the greater degree of adaptability allows absorbing demands of divergent groups and success to keep the Colorado Party in power.
