Abstract

VARGAS HERNANDEZ, Brayant Armando. Introduction to qualitative comparative analysis (QCA): concepts, implementation and applications in Latin America. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2023, n.58, pp.233-259.  Epub Nov 04, 2025. ISSN 0185-1616.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484903e.2023.58.84841.

Qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) makes it possible to explain the presence or absence of an outcome based on its necessary conditions and sufficient causal configurations. The scarcity of introductory literature in Spanish has limited the development of QCA in Latin America, whose applications show shortcomings. In response, the author presents its concepts, procedures, and good practices, making a critical assessment of the empirical studies published in this region.

Keywords : QCA; multiple causality; necessary conditions; causal configurations; Latin America.
