Abstract

PACHECO MENDEZ, Guadalupe. The election of national leaders in the PRI, 2000-2007. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2013, n.30, pp.131-162. ISSN 0185-1616.

Between 2000 and 2007, due to the fact that the Presidency of the Republic was no longer occupied by a PRI member, this party moved towards an organizational stage characterized by the struggle between the PRI governors to control the national party leadership. Due to the low party organizational institutionalization, the processes employed to elect a national leader were varied and marked by severe conflicts. This situation changed in 2012, when the PRI won the presidency of Mexico.

Keywords : Political parties; Institutional Revolutionary Party; chairman of the National Executive Committee; PRI governors; internal elections.
