Abstract

The author emphasis the role of Adolfo Suárez as the true artificer of Spanish transition, explains the meaning of the so-called "ruptura pactada" and the achievements in a very short time of President Suárez. The paper deals also with the role of the King, the democratic opposition, the military and the bunker, the work of Torcuato Fernández Miranda, Carlos Arias Navarro's government, the appointment of Adolfo Suárez, the legalization of the Spanish Communist Party, the rising of Union del Centro Democrático, the first democratic elections, the second and third Suárez' administrations and the triumph of Partido Socialista Obrero Español.
