SAINT-FELIX LOPEZ, Nelson; ALVAREZ DEULOFEU, Eduardo Rafael y CANDEBAT SANCHEZ, Darío. Seismic analysis of a vertical cylindrical steel tank, according to the north american and new zealand codes. Ing. sísm [online]. 2024, n.113, pp.134-143. Epub 07-Mar-2025. ISSN 0185-092X. https://doi.org/10.18867/ris.113.610.
Considering the susceptibility of vertical cylindrical steel tanks, located in industrial facilities, to suffer some level of damage in the occurrence of earthquakes of great magnitude; and given the absence in the Republic of Cuba of a design code that allows the hydrodynamic analysis of this type of structures, the design criteria established by some current standards, recognized by the international scientific community, are applied. In the present work, the results of the analysis performed to a vertical cylindrical steel tank, located in the southeastern area of Cuba, specifically, in the province of Santiago de Cuba; which is subjected to horizontal seismic excitation, taking as reference the design codes API-650 (2020) and SDST NZSEE (2009), from the parameters that characterize the seismic hazard of the Republic of Cuba, established in NC 46 (2017), are evaluated. Such analysis is carried out with the objective of being able to compare the variations that occur between the fundamental design parameters, allowing to conclude that, the main differences observed, are fundamentally due to: (1) mechanical model used, (2) design philosophy, (3) damping fraction with respect to the critical of the modes, (4) design spectral acceleration coefficients, (5) combination of the impulsive and convective components, among others aspects.
