This article documents the transformations in territoriality, the forms of production and work relations of a handcrafted object: the huipil of Juchitán, Oaxaca. One of the main characteristics of traditional handicraft production was its close ties to spaces, resources, traditions, producers and consumers which identified each community. However, since the 90s there has been a de-contextualization of handcrafted products. This article describes and analyzes the fragmentation of the productive process of huipiles of Juchitán and its move towards ranches and cities in Los Altos de Jalisco.
