The present article, the result of fieldwork, is an ontological analysis of the conceptualization of death among the Yaquis that explores the rituality that accompanies rites of passage and notions of space in the Yaqui world. At the same time, it shows how only by taking into account an individual's life and the cultural construction of a person is it possible to understand the funeral ritual and the types of social organization surrounding it.
