Abstract

LOPEZ ROBLES, Adalberto de Jesús. The Determinants of Trust in the President in Colombia (2014-2018): a Perspective from the Theory of Institutional Performance. Foro int [online]. 2022, vol.62, n.2, pp.305-339.  Epub May 09, 2022. ISSN 0185-013X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/fi.v62i2.2756.

Previous research has highlighted that changes in levels of political trust are related to the performance of governments. The effort to explain this thesis has led to the theory of performance. This approach holds that institutions that perform well are trusted; those that malfunction generate mistrust. This study uses data from a LAPOP survey in three specific periods (2014, 2016, and 2018) to examine how performance (economic and governmental) determines trust in the figure of the Colombian president. The findings suggest that performance explains fluctuations in confidence in the Executive.

Keywords : political trust; Colombia; institutional performance; corruption; economy.
