This study analyzes the distribution and diversity of terrestrial gastropods shells in three types of landforms at Chichén Itzá: a plain, a hill, and a doline, through the excavation of three stratigraphic pits. A total of 1,429 specimens were identified, belonging to nine species, eight genera, six families, and four orders. The results reveal that Neocyclotus dysoni is the most abundant species, accounting for 74.6%, 38.5%, and 41.16% in the plain, hill, and doline, respectively. Other notable species include Halotudora gaigei and Choanopomops largillierti. Likewise, a low number of specimens of Averellia coactiliata, Bulimulus unicolor, Euglandina cylindracea, Euglandina sp., Helicina sp., and Streptostyla sp. were recorded. Gastropod density varied significantly between the pits and horizons. The surface horizon of the doline showed the highest density, followed by the hill and the plain. In the plain, deeper horizons exhibited lower densities, reflecting less favorable conditions for shell preservation. Diversity and evenness were highest in the hill, where shaded conditions and high organic matter favored a balanced distribution of species. Moreover, it is suggested that edaphic and microenvironmental factors -humidity, shade, organic matter, and alkaline pH- influence the composition of malacological communities. The results provide a significant starting point for understanding the relationship between environmental conditions and gastropod distribution in karstic landscapes.
