Based on the morphological study of specimens from the Maatawi Ecotouristic Park, five firefly species of the genus Photinus Laporte, 1833 were recognized, two of which are new to science: P. totiwi sp. nov. of nocturnal habits and its relationship with P. palaciosi (Zaragoza-Caballero, 2012) is discussed and P. ximutiwi sp. nov. of diurnal habits and is compared with P. badilloae Zaragoza-Caballero, 2017, P. ishwari Zaragoza-Caballero, 2017 and P. nayeliae Zaragoza-Caballero, 2017. To perpetuate the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, the scientific names were assigned in Bot’una language by the Matlatzinca community from San Francisco Oxtotilpan.
