Keys for the taxonomic identification of males and females of Phlebotominae (Diptera: Psychodidae) known to date in Mexico with the morphological characteristics illustrated, the technique suggested for the preparation of permanent slides for microscope observation and a glossary of terms of the characteristics used in the keys are presented. A total of 53 extant species and two fossil species are currently recognized in Mexico, belonging to one tribe, four subtribes, 10 genera and 12 subgenera.
