MURGA-GONZALEZ, Alejandro Daniel; CARAVEO-MENA, Camilo; MARQUEZ-BORBON, Adnán y URIAS-VAZQUEZ, Yuritzi Abigail. Usability assessment of design workshops of interactive toys. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2025, vol.8, n.1, e399. Epub 26-Ene-2026. ISSN 2594-1925. https://doi.org/10.37636/recit.v8n1e399.
The research project focuses on evaluating design workshops from the perspective of ergonomics and usability to contribute to the pedagogy of design disciplines. These workshops were aimed at creating interactive toys for young children with multiple disabilities and living in vulnerable conditions. The project is based on the understanding of the instructional process within the workshop as an evaluable product that influences the quality of the designed object. In this regard, the workshop is treated similarly to objects like interactive toys, which feature analog and digital interfaces and can be analyzed from the perspective of applied cognition. To achieve this, technological, collaborative, and pedagogical elements are defined as dimensions to be evaluated through usability variables, with indicators such as software and hardware management, the quality of instructional design, and team integration. The development of this project originates from pedagogical exercises in the Industrial Design educational program at UABC-FCITEC, initiated in 2017, which have led to the current collaboration with the Faculty of Arts in Ensenada, directed at the Centro de Atención Múltiple in Tecate. It is believed that evaluating the usability qualities of design processes can strengthen the understanding of ergonomics and its intersection with pedagogy.
