Migration in search of a better place to live has increased worldwide. Along their routes, emigrants are exposed to risks, discrimination, and abuse by those who enforce restrictive rules in those countries that define irregular immigration (entry or stay) as a criminal offense. In other countries, irregular immigration is defined by the legislation as an administrative offense and for some cases provides support to the immigrants meanwhile, they fulfill the requirements set by immigration law for their regularization, in other cases they are deported to their country of origin or a third country. In the boom of the human rights granted by the International Law, what has been the response of the Mexican Government to the migration flows from Central America and the Caribbean countries, who request legal documents to continue their journey to the United States of America? The present analysis describes the rules and practices of the Mexican authorities attending this issue and concludes that they are no different, despite some exceptions, from the ones we criticize from other latitudes. To address this issue properly, first we must know and define it without discriminatory or xenophobic biases, then recognize that our fears in aliens relies on what is strange from us and, finally, admit the benefits of migration.
