DIAZ-AGUILAR, Rocío de Jesús et al. First report of Mortierella sp. in the cultivation of chili in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Sci. fungorum [online]. 2022, vol.53, e1412. Epub 04-Ene-2025. ISSN 2594-1321. https://doi.org/10.33885/sf.2022.53.1412.
Background:
The genus Mortierella was found in soil and is associated with fruit tree roots, however, there are few reports of its isolation in horticultural crops.
Objective:
Determine the identity of a fungus isolated from chili plant roots and its possible role as a phytopathogen.
Methods:
Serrano chili plants with yellowing and wilting symptoms were collected from commercial lots in Altamira, Ta maulipas, fungal isolations were made from roots in artificial culture media. The strains obtained were identified by their morphological and molecular characteristics, and their pathogenicity was evaluated.
Results and conclusions:
Mortierella sp. was identified according to morphological and molecular characters. Plants ino culated with the strains did not show symptoms after inoculation. We report for the first time the presence of the genus Mortierella in chili bell pepper crops in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
