Resumen
FALCON, Romana. A new glance at land restitution. Between two sierras and a water forest. Seven pueblos of the Distrito Federal. Hist. mex. [online]. 2026, vol.75, n.4, pp.1847-1891. Epub 06-Abr-2026. ISSN 2448-6531. https://doi.org/10.24201/hm.v75i4.5209.
This article examines the process of land, forest, and water restitution-a cornerstone of land reform-based on the experience of seven towns (pueblos) in southwest Distrito Federal (Mexico City). This procedure was not merely symbolic; rather, it provided the basis for elucidating the transfer of communal (ejidal) lands and water once restitution was requested. The analysis is structured around three axes: the continuity between restitution and endowment processes; the provenance of the transferred lands; and the dialectic between petitioners and the technicians of the Local Land Commission. The article also reviews the legislative framework and the conflicts among towns (pueblos), landowners (hacendados), and communities.
