CANO CASTELLANOS, Ingreet Juliet y PAZ SAGREDO, María. Convergences Between Anthropology and the Political Ecology of the State. Estud. sociol [online]. 2025, vol.43, e2966. Epub 23-Ene-2026. ISSN 2448-6442. https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2025v43.e2966.
The anthropology of the state and the political ecology of the state inquire into the transformations of this object of study in the transition from the twentieth to the twenty-first century. However, until the present dossier, both subdisciplines have not developed an interdisciplinary dialogue. Accordingly, this introduction presents eight articles exploring the theoretical and methodological potential for fostering strategic interdisciplinary work in and beyond the Social Sciences. Taking processual and relational readings of the state as starting points, we propose the need to deontologize it when addressing different biophysical elements and environments, as well as socioenvironmental problems of great resonance across geographical contexts. Thus, by mobilizing the political-cultural contributions of anthropology and the political-ecological reflections on nature, we delve into the reproduction of state power in its contradictory relations with specific capitalist internalizations and with diverse human groupings.
