Resumen
ESPONDA PEREZ, José Alberto y MARROQUIN FIGUEROA, Julia María. Uses and experiences in dating apps among the LGBTTTIQ+ community in Chiapas, México. PAAKAT: rev. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.14, n.27, e883. Epub 22-Oct-2024. ISSN 2007-3607. https://doi.org/10.32870/pk.a14n27.883.
The article analyzes the functionality, uses, and experiences of the LGBTTTIQ+ community in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, on the dating apps Grindr and Tinder. A phenomenological qualitative study was conducted with semi-structured interviews of 26 participants, focusing on personal profiles, app usage and functionality, and navigation experiences. The results show that users adopt identities in their profiles with patterns of motivation and communication, and exhibit superficiality, violence, discrimination, and stereotypes. Although negative experiences were identified, it was also highlighted that the apps allow for greater control over interactions and provide a safe space to explore sexual identity. A limitation was the limited openness and participation of the interviewees. It is concluded that using Grindr for encounters presents both limitations in functionality and user interaction as well as significant benefits in terms of freedom and security in identity exploration.
