Resumen

BOLIVAR MEZA, Rosendo. The ought to be and the being of politics: from political philosophy to political science. Valenciana [online]. 2025, vol.18, n.35, pp.127-147.  Epub 26-Ene-2026. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v18i35.787.

Ever since Ancient Greece, politics has captured the attention of both philosophers and historians. Gradually, the study of philosophical phenomena has been refined to a degree where contemporary thought can make a clear distinction between Political Theory and Political Science. The analysis of public affairs, the notion of common good and power relations have all been studied from the time Philosophical Theory first emerged. However, what is deemed ‘modern’ is the study of politics as a science, given that discipline is believed to be scientific when it has a specific and independent object of study with its own research methods.

Palabras llave : Political science; Political phenomena; Political philosophy; Politics; Power.
