The principle of compositionality has been well accepted by certain currents of the philosophy of language and linguistics. However, they have raised the questioned of this priniciple’s validity in the analysis of natural language. The principal issues noticed are related to contextual or pragmatic aspects. The aim of this work is to show that there are some cases of natural language in which the principle of compositionality, in its traditional version, is limited and, therefore, inoperative. I will defend that the principle of compositionality meets other limits if we analyze the meaning of linguistic constructions in the light of Text Linguistics.
