Resumen

DIAZ-INFANTE, Sergio  y  TORRES-GARCIA, Ignacio. First record of the White-eyed Vireo, Vireo griseus, in Michoacán, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.1, e670.  Epub 09-Sep-2024. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2024.25.1.789.

Recording species in new localities far from their typical distribution ranges provides evidence of atypical movements and migrations caused by several poorly understood factors. Hence, their documentation contributes to understanding these movements. In Mexico, the White-eyed Vireo, Vireo griseus, is mainly distributed on the Gulf slope, either as a resident or migratory, and records on the Pacific slope are rare. In February 2022, we recorded an individual in the La Mintzita wetland near Morelia, Michoacán. The solitary individual was foraging and constantly moving among dense understory, about 10 m away from the wetland. This observation represents the first formal report of the White-eyed Vireo in Michoacán. This report provides information on the distribution and movements of this species and highlights the ecological value of the La Mintzita wetland for resident and migratory birds.
