RUIZ DE LA TORRE, Gabriela y RUEDA LOPEZ, David Xicoténcatl. The Infeasibility of the Popular Vote to Elect ministers, Magistrates and Judges in Mexico. Región y sociedad [online]. 2024, vol.36, e1917. Epub 09-Jun-2025. ISSN 2448-4849. https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2024/36/1917.
Objective: Exploring the viability of electing ministers, magistrates, and judges by popular vote in Mexico and highlight its risks, such as the lack of transparency and objectivity. Methodology: Qualitative, involving document analysis to examine the proposed reform and its implications on the separation of powers and human rights protection. Results: Suggest that popular elections compromise the impartiality of the judicial system. Value: An alternative selection method is proposed, based on performance evaluation and professional trajectory, promoting indirect citizen participation. Limitations: There is need for further research on the electorate’s perceptions. Conclusions: This study emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity and independence of The Judiciary in Mexico.
