This article analyzes the relationship between the coffee production crisis and the evolution of agrarian structure in the municipality of Huehuetla, Puebla. In the context of such a crisis, the main agrarian transformation has been the increase of smallholdings. Therefore, the conservation of land property and access to land through inheritance and the coffee cultivation system can only be explained in terms of the persistence of a peasant economy.
