ROJO BOTELLO, Norma Rebeca; FLORES ESPINOSA, Arturo y ARCOS CASTRO, Mónica. Prevalence, severity and extension of chronic periodontitis. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.1, pp.31-39. ISSN 1870-199X.
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, severity and extension of the chronic periodontitis and the relationship beetwen them with age, gender, marital status, educational level and monthly income. The prevalence was 67.2 %, the mean of the severity of loss of attachment was 2.29 mm and the percentage of extension of affected sites was 55.70 %. Significant differences were observed in the prevalence with age and education variables (p < 0.000, p < 0.05 respectively). Severity and extension variables showed a positive correlation statistically significant with age (p < 0.000, p < 0.000 respectively). The males represented a higher severity average than women (p = 0.038). Concerning the educational level, if it was higher, there were lower severity and extension of periodontitis (p < 0.009, p < 0.002 respectively); a smaller severity was seen in those subjects who perceive at least one minimum monthly salary (p = 0.0241). The marital status and the occupation did not have statistically significant differences.
