Resumen
BONFIM, Alexea Santos de Santana; BARBOSA, Miriã Ramalho y CASSUCE, Francisco Carlos da Cunha. Effect of lagged adolescent fertility on crime in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2025, vol.25, e2236. Epub 13-Feb-2026. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20252236.
This paper examined the possible relationship between the adolescent fertility rate -with a 15-year lag- and the rate of violent crimes against persons in the state of Minas Gerais’s municipalities between 2014 and 2019. For this purpose, a fixed effects model was projected. The results indicate that lagged teenage fertility positively affects the rate of violent crimes against persons. In addition, it was verified that the proportion of young people aged 15 to 24 positively impacts such rate, while education and per capita income have a negative impact.
