FERNANDEZ DE CASTRO, Patricia; HERRANZ-AGUAYO, Inmaculada; DIAZ-GARCIA, Orlanda  y  DIAZ-HERRAIZ, Eduardo. Migratory movements in the Spain of the crisis: ¿threat or hope?. Pap. poblac [online]. 2025, vol.31, n.120, e14780.  Epub 04-Jul-2025. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2025.120.03.

The object of analysis is the migratory context in Spain (2008-2018), from a structural perspective of migratory dynamics, as well as, from the symbolic construction of the phenomenon. The evolution of migratory flows is described, the resident population is characterized by nationality and the perceptions of the Spanish population about immigration. Finally, the structural dimension of migratory movements and the cultural-symbolic dimension of immigration are compared. Among the main results highlight, firstly, the occurrence of a new cycle in migratory flows, with two simultaneous trends to emigration and immigration: Recovery of pre-crisis immigration flow and stabilization of a trend towards the emigration of Spaniards at active ages. Secondly, the relevance of migratory flows in the structure and population growth in Spain and, thirdly, the consolidation of the main discourses on immigration and the oversized perception about the magnitude of the foreign population in Spain.

Palabras llave : Migratory flows; foreign population; population growth; discourses on immigration.
