Resumen

JIMENEZ-RAMOS, Frida; VALENCIA-ROMERO, Ramón  y  LECHUGA RODRIGUEZ, Eduardo Luis. Impact of the PROSPERA program on school attendance: evidence of a Probit model for the State of Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2024, vol.30, n.119, e20902.  Epub 17-Feb-2025. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2024.119.02.

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the PROSPERA programme on school attendance, specifically in primary school children in the State of Mexico. The methodology used was a probabilistic (probit) model, where the dummy dependent variable is school attendance and the independent variables considered were variables related to income, household members, food deprivation, scholarships, indigenous language speakers and the ratio of scholarships to the number of residents. In the estimation of the model, the expansion factor was considered in order to obtain representative results at the state level. The results show that the PROSPERA programme positively affects the probability of attending school; on the other hand, income and speaking an indigenous language do not influence the level of attendance of children. The results show that PROSPERA is a key factor determining children’s primary school attendance in the State of Mexico.
