This article analyzes collegiate work in secondary schools, based on the dynamics generated in academia and the organizations designed for social participation in education. The research focused on logs of observations made in schools for four months, as well as on in-depth interviews with teachers, prefects, principals, assistant principals, and supervisors. The compiled evidence indicates that participation acquires peculiarities when it is adapted to the cultural and organizational conditions at each school; such practices generally lead to bureaucratic routines or administrative processes that are meaningless for teachers.
