MORAN, Daniel; YARANGO, Jesús y CARCELEN, Carlos. Negotiation and fidelity in times of war. Lima donations during the administration of Viceroy Abascal, 1806-1814. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2025, vol.32, n.1, e1507. Epub 08-Abr-2025. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/20073496.1507.
The objective of our research is to analyze the negotiation carried out between the viceroy of Peru José Fernando de Abascal and some members of the Lima elite to get donations, taking as a starting point his entry to power in 1806 and concluding our analysis with the creation of the Junta of Arbitrios in 1814. To achieve the objective, we will use as a documentary corpus the ledgers and manuals of the Caja Matriz de Lima, the correspondence of Viceroy Abascal kept in the National Library of Peru, and the newspapers Minerva Peruana and Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima. From this investigation we will seek to demonstrate the political position that some of these characters took and the benefits they were able to obtain.
