In this paper, I propose that some of the texts of “Arenas movedizas” by Octavio Paz possess a narrative structure recognized by the author himself and are composed from a metaphor which possesses a narrative function; i.e., the meaning to be given to the related events depends on the interpretation of the metaphor, because the metaphor of these texts operates under a system of relationships that enrich the meaning of the text and the metaphor itself. The metaphor appears as a nodal figure, like the concepts of narrative and surrealism, for the interpretation of some stories of this work.
