LIZARRAGA RAMOS, Alma Rosa y PARIS POMBO, María Dolores. The social construction of the migratory route on the Tabasco border. Trace (Méx. DF) [online]. 2025, n.88, pp.17-40. Epub 09-Mar-2026. ISSN 2007-2392. https://doi.org/10.22134/trace.88.2025.918.
This article analyzes migratory routes not merely as the sum of trajectories between two geographical points, rather as a process that involves the construction of social spaces through the mobility, hope and settlement of the migrants.
We argue that migratory routes are constructed through widely diverse groups of people involved, such as the migrants, the local population, people who help along the way, the shelters, inter-governmental organizations and civil society organizations.
We present results from fieldwork carried out during 2022 and 2023 in Tenosique Tabasco including the rural zones near the border with Guatemala, which allow us to discuss the transformation of social space due to the rapid increase immigration and considering the border securitization processes.
