CANALES SANCHEZ, Alejandro. La participación social en educación: un dilema por resolver. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2006, vol.28, n.113, pp.64-80. ISSN 0185-2698.

This essay analyzes the organizational structure of social participation in education. The first section is about the emergence of the so-called "civil society", trying to underline the differences between society and State and to locate the problem of instutionalization of social society. The second one deals with the meaning of "participate", in order to show that another important part of the failure can be found there. The third part is a description of the "Consejos de Participación Social" (Councils for Social Participation) and the acknowledgement of their lacks within the current administration's sectorial program. Finally, the author concludes that the main problem is to imagine that creating authorities to connect government and society resolves the complex matter of social participation and good government.
