BRAVO AHUJA RUIZ, María Marcela y RAMIREZ GONZALEZ, Brandon. The impact of the homologation of local electoral calendars in Mexico, 2009-2021. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2023, n.59, pp.30-48. Epub 10-Nov-2025. ISSN 0185-1616. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484903e.2023.59.85855.
The purpose of this article is to show the effects of a issue not very studied within the electoral reforms that have been carried out in the country: the homologation of local calendars with the federal calendar, in terms of representativeness and governability. To this end, we compare a series of indicators from 2009, the year in which the homologation process began, with 2021, when for the first time in all the entities of the country there was at least one local election concurrent with the federal one. We find that, in representation, the expected effects of a contraction are observed, while in governance, unified governments do not increase, as theory suggests.
