Resumen

ILLESCAS DIAZ, Laura. The New Spain Baroque Festival: The Study of Ephemeral Architectures through the Gazeta de México at the Dawn of the Modern Age. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2024, vol.46, n.125, pp.161-196.  Epub 28-Ene-2025. ISSN 0185-1276.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2024.125.2870.

The perishable nature of ephemeral architecture has made it necessary to approach its study from work contracts and printed or recorded reports; however, this work has gone a step further and proposes the use of a source of information relegated to oblivion: the press. Consequently, an exhaustive review of all the numbers published by the Gazeta de México during the 18th century has been carried out with the aim of analyzing these artistic manifestations erected in New Spain in the dawn of the Modern Age. In addition, a reconstruction of their original appearance will be carried out, to discover their locations in the urban framework or to determine who was primarily responsible for financing them, among other issues. The decision to revalue this medium is due to the fact that it is the only resource available to researchers, so that its consultation is key to advancing in the knowledge of the Viceregal artistic heritage.

Palabras llave : Gazeta; ephemeral architecture; celebrations; Viceroyalty; press; Mexico.
